East Coast
08.09.04 (12:09 am) [edit]
|
okies, the main difference between the east coast and the west coast of australia is huge. the east coast especially sydney, melbourne and brisbane have bigger populations, a real chinatown, better shopping experience.
in the west coast, we are so far behind... i remember when i was flying back from sydney to perth... the cabin crew informed us "that perth is 20 years behind the east" haha actually she apologised, she was meant to say rather that perth is 2 hours behind the east, same timezone as Taipei, Shanghai, Singapore, Malaysia. +800 GMT. Actually the first statement she made has a ring of truth about it.
Alot of miscreants, misfits, underachievers from the east coast settle in perth, i'm talking about the ang moh lar, they like the quiet sleepy perth lifestyle. they wanna escape of the big concrete jungle of sydney, melbourne and brisbane.
I found that Sydney and Brisbane have HMV, Borders, Kinokuniya, starbucks. Now they have kruspy kreme, an American franchise doughnut joint. quite popular in Sydney, only shop on York St. off George Street in Sydney. I have not been to Melbourne, I suspect Melbourne also got HMV, Borders and Kinokuniya. We should have them in Perth, we are closer to Asia, Singapore have them all... But its all based on population size ~ market. Perth needs alot of catching up to do. har har.
I was talking to my workmate, that I had a talked with my friend's father, Australia is a really big island in south east asia. that means the coastline is so vast and huge. hard to defend... if Indonesia, China or India decides to send a boat load of people, maybe 500+ to 1000+ on each boat, to Australia, Australia will be colonised already by now har har.
Another workmate indicated China have 20 million paratroopers, I am not sure how accurate is it, I know the People's Liberation Army have 1 to 2 million troops. But let say 20 million paratroopers land in Australia, this is equivalent to Australia's population har har, we will basically be conquered.
Lets put things in perspective, there are 4 million people in Sydney. There are also 4 million people in Singapore. Obviously Singapore is smaller, higher population density, more happening, shops open later at night... higher frequency of buses and trains. Sydney is happening in the day, the 4 million people are spreaded over vast distances in surburbs. Also lets look at New Zealand, obviously also got 4 million people but scattered over the two main islands. the population density is definitely lower than singapore's and sydneys. From the tour to the blue mountain the bus driver aka tour guide mentioned Sydney is also growing really fast, about 9000 people settle in Sydney each week, migrants and people from other places settle in big cities like Sydney bcos of better job opportunites and services.
In some places of Sydney, I feel like I am in Asia, so many black hair har har. I feel like I am in Bugis Junction in Singapore or Kuala Lumpur. Alot of mainland chinese, japanese, hong kongers, indonesians, thai, vietnamese, a few malaysians and singaporeans. I only heard one gurl speaking hokkien. All sorts of people really. In Brisbane, there are more taiwanese, mainland chinese over there. Taiwan has a sub tropical climate that is very similar to Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The winter is dry, they get most of their rain during summer. It is only Perth that feels more malaysian and singaporeans. Every you go, you sure can tell malaysians or singaporeans. This is perth, close proximity to Singapore/Malaysia. My uncle said Melbourne is very hong konger, (correct me if I am wrong). Lotsa hong konger everywhere I suppose. The majority of restaurants have cantonese speakers. Also indonesians are also everywhere because the ones that come here are off course rich lar, come here and study... also have fun, go to the mountains and see snow, ski and have fun.

first day back @ work
08.08.04 (11:51 pm) [edit]
|
First day back at work... started at 8 am. Lotsa and lotsa ppl to deal with. The photocopying people are not doing their job. I was about to do the paper runs for the printers and get new toners I saw the photocopying boss in his office. I told him, I paged the photocopying attendant many times to go and refill paper and replace toner cartridges. He apologised, they have a new gurl around... he acknowledged they got the page message but thought it was old messages from last week. I wondered to myself "huh" all paged messages have a date stamp on it. Dun tell me they are so blur?... not realising to check the date and time the message was sent. I also talked to another staff member on the loans desk, bcos we also got a message from her about the photocopiers in the reserve room out of commission. She paged everybody. She told me, she was so busy today, alot of things not working, frustrated... I said same here at the service counter. I am also angry alot of things are not done... we copped alot of flak because we are the front line dealing with people and when things are not done on time/out of our control, we are the first one the students or staff like to spill their anger...
I talked to my workmates today... one guy chris quitted work about two weeks ago, fed up with the IT dept poor handling of IT systems and the people in charged of the systesm. Its true... the people that worked at our uni, if they were working for the private sector, would have gotten the sack long time ago. They have such poor people skills and cannot deliver services on time. Take for example, the week I went away to Sydney for holiday, the student database went down, staff cannot check enrollments, the timetable where students do their lecture timetabling was down 3 days, a host of things went down... Its just unacceptable for students to take that sorta nonsense, waited 3 days to do their timetables.
Matt the runner boy, said he has had enuff of full-time work, going back to casual, working 3 days a week if he can get his way. He said, he got pushed and shoved around, taking the blame... His job description was not clear, he had to do alot of other jobs that other staff responsible should have done but they as usual, slack, unmotivated shirkers hence his going to go back to casual working about $100 less when he was full-time. He still wants to get a V8 5 litre second car. But he might not afford the fuel for it.
I also saw this indonesian gurl, I couldn't recognise her at all until my friend said it was the gurl that always wore the tennis cap last semester, always in the library lab doing her assignment or using the net. She now spots blonde hair and a red jacket. Matt reckons she looks hot too. har har...
Whats with all the blonde hair these days!, maybe it was me who started it when I got bored and coloured my hair blonde. But blonde hair with asians were there even before I did coloured my hair during the first semester's break. I guess people these days wanna be more interesting, test out new hair looks... gurls are always more fashion conscious than guys :P
After work at 1230, I went down to the bookshop with my fren, bought a book for $98. Man!!! thats so expensive, my fren told me, to go to Singapore, in clementi there is a bookshop to get my books over there, its so much cheaper even though its paperback. I told him, yah, my uncle also said the same, better go to clementi bookshop next time. But this is my last 6 months of uni, I'll go back to studying in the future. I want to also work and also travel. I like travelling by myself, I'm feel so happy, I am free and nobody's bitch. I basically did everything I wanted when I was in Brisbane and Sydney. I felt homesick the first day, but everyday after that, I felt so happy to be going out, shopping, sightseeing, eating and also talking to other people from different background.
When I was on holidays, I talked to a few Britons, one german school teacher taking his small class around in sydney, half indonesian-American guy going to UTS (Uni of Technology Sydney), a New Zealander, some Japanese people, an Irish dude in Brisbane, two Dutch gurls of Filipino descent, one Hong Konger who has lived in Britain his whole life.
If I get the chance to travel alone again... I'll be more than happy. I need to go back to Malaysia for Chinese New Year to visit my dad's relatives. I have not seen my dad's relatives for yonks! time to meet and strengthen the family ties. My mum said I have to take my brother back to Malaysia, he has not been back for quite some time.
My uncle who lives in Australia is going back to Malaysia via Singapore this tuesday. He needs to see his father who is not feeling well and also sort out some stuff over there.

Today
07.31.04 (3:20 am) [edit]
Today, I went to have a look at the fish market on prymont road. Lotsa of fish and seafood. Also there is an eating place nearby. Had salmon and chips. My other friends had silver platter for two person.
Went to Krupsy Kreme to get some doughnuts. Bought half a dozen, assorted one. Still have not finished it all. Maybe after this write up!!!
I also visited QVB, had a look around, YD. I was looking for a pair of jeans. My friends suggested going to Birken Head point where the factory outlets are for YD and I might try my luck there getting the pair of jeans I wanted :)

blue mountain trip
07.30.04 (3:45 am) [edit]
Today, I spent my whole day on a daytour to the Blue Mountain. It is called the Blue Mountain because when u look in the distance towards it, the eucalyptus trees give off a bluish colour when the sun shines on the mountain range. Its like a blue mist or haze surrounding the mountains. Quite spectacular landforms and ranges.
I paid A$83 student price to go to firstly, featherdale wildlife park (sorta like caversham wildlife park in Perth). Also we went to have lunch at a motel, ate lotsa rice and curry chicken. haha. I talked to a few english tourist. We took the train at scenic world down to the rainforest and used the cable car to ride back up giving us an different angle to the three sisters. The three sisters in my own words is from a story about an aboriginal tribe, ok, three guys were interested the these three sisters, they got boned... alright, the dad found out, told the three guys to not see the three sisters again, but the three guys refused and wanted to pick a fight with the dad. The dad used magic powers to turn the sisters into stone formation as a bargaining chip. The dad wanted to talk to these guys, not fight, he had his weapons hidden somewhere else. But the three guys confronted the dad and killed him. Hence, bcos the dad was the only one that can transform the sisters back to humans, he was dead. hence the sisters was set in stone. the three guys continue partying on and boning gurls. haha. thats one version of the aboriginal story.
oh, I learnt that POM stands for Prisoners of Motherland England and WoG stands for Workers of Government Welfare. I learnt that from the captain on the canal cruise while I was on the gold coast.
I have accomplished all the sightseeing I wanted to see, now its just left with Birken Head point and Watson bay and check out the universities.
Ate food at sussex centre today, wanted to go to dixon street court but the security guard told me it was closing. maybe bullshit man, saw me with blonde hair, thought I was an Ah-Fei chai. haha. anyway, I can visit there another time.

went to check out the beach today
07.28.04 (11:08 pm) [edit]
Today, I visited the Manly area by Sydney Ferry. Caught it from Circular Quay. Manly area is sorta lay back. The beach is quite a long stretch tho, made up of smaller beachers too. I went to the furthest right which ends up at shelley beach. On the other side, it ends with queens beach i suppose. Manly beach reminds me of the beach on the gold coast, ok, u got the white sandy beach, then u got the stairs and walkways and grass area with trees surrounding the boulevard area. Many japanese tourist and asian tourist are there also, looking around, having a barbecue at shelley beach. quite a lively place.
I also went back to Circular Quay, down to Central Station, caught a train to Bondi Junction and took the 381 bus to Bondi Beach. When I got there, the beach looks nice, white creamy fine sand, but its such a small beach. Only thing spectacular about this beach it is famous for special events hosted there, nice rich apartments, houses, condos in and around the coastal area. In Western Australia, the coastline is so huge, there are so many beaches out there that are have whiter sand and finer than Bondi. But what makes Bondi unique is its a sydney sider beach. Its international.
There weren't alot of people on the beach, weather was cold and windy. I can see a few people jogging, going to surf, alot of japanese and asian tourists snapping photos of the beach and the surroundings.
Okies, Now i'm at King Cross, the supposedly "nightlife hub of sydney". Well, the middle of the road is blocked off, one lane active, construction going on..., it just looks like a bit like northbridge in perth but its bigger. Its got more risque and adult stores. More an adult hang out area. Used to be notorious for a lot of other things haha.
anyway, I'm at a internet cafe, this nice chinese lady is helping me transfer my photos from my SD memory card to CD. She is offering me 1/2 hour free on the net. So I thought, might as well update my blog.
Things that I have seen and to crossed out off my list Sydney Opera House Sydney Harbour Bridge River Cruise of the Sydney Bay area Sydney Aquarium Tarango Zoo QVB - Shopping Mall Market City - Shopping Mall and Market Chinatown UTS Manly Beach Bondi Beach Kings Cross Pitt Street Mall Martin Place @ Night Darling Harbour @ Night
Things I still need to do UNSW - go to have a look NSW Art Gallery - maybe if I got time Chatswood - Shopping Mall Birken Heads Point - Bay Area Watson Bay - Bay Area
I guess these holidays I have achieved a great deal. I planned out my trip nicely. Thats the good thing about travelling alone. I am not sure if I'll get the opportunity see all the things I have if I travelled with friends because they may have other ideas. Gotta spend more time in Sydney again.

sydney tower and aquarium trip yesterday
07.26.04 (5:34 pm) [edit]
Yesterday, I spent my whole day at two places. I went up the Sydney Tower and the Aquarium. The Sydney Tower cost me $17.00, student concession price. It was nice, spectacular view of the city. I could see the Sydney Harbour Bridge and a bit of Opera House. One of the buildings were blocking our view. The visitor guide said we could see about 80 to 90 km around us. It is the highest observation deck in the southern hemisphere and the 2nd tallest tower behind NZ's one.
I went to the aquarium, lotsa attractions, some of which I have seen at the Perth one e.g. sea dragon. New attraction included the potbelly sea horse with a big belly. There were lotsa seals, sharks, finding nemo theme areas. I wish I went wif somebody, to help me take pictures. Overall the aquarium is bigger than the Perth.
Didn't get the chance to walk over the other side of the bridge at darling harbour bcos it was raining in the evening yesterday. I'll get the chance another day :)

In sydney today!!!
07.25.04 (1:39 am) [edit]
Woke up at 5:30+, still blur eye and dreamy. Went to the loo and also washed me face. Forgot about breakfast, packed me shit up, checked out, used $10 deposit to buy one way aerotrain ticket and headed for central station opposite corner from me lousy backpacker hotel. Got to airport, checked in, passed security gate, bought 2 sandwiches and a mount franklin spring water bottle for about $8.
Boarded budget plane at 7:40 am, flight departed at 8 am, touched down sydney at 9:30 am. Proceeded to baggage reclaim, got bag, phoned maze backpacker for shuttle bus to pick me up, the venue was terminal 2, baggage reclaim 5. also picked up 1 german girl holidaying for 6 weeks and two pommie girls. I got ripped of $2.80 for a can of lemon ice tea at the QVB shopping mall today. Laksa place. so expensive. Okies, Once I checked into my room, I inserted $3 in the washing machine and washed my clothes, another $3 for the dryer tho. $6 bucks all up. Also just as I expected, I went to a camera shop called Ted's, paid $9.95 for them to use my digital camera memory card and burn my brisbane trip photos on to it. wow!!! all money going down the drain so quck one ler. now my digital camera has alot of space. tomorrow, I'll go and do some needed sightseeing.
ok about this place i'm staying... it has carpted floors, the room is smaller, 2 room share, bunk bed. no power outlet to recharge mobile phone. that sucks. also the bathroom and toilet is alot cleaner and neater.
kitchen is also roomy, there are 4 colors, red, blue, green and yellow. i'm in the red zone. okies, to charge mobile phone, need to bring down to reception and they'll charge. so mah fan man!!!
my room kinda small, okies to give u an idea, let say u got a bunkbed, the room left over is about 60 - 80 cm away from the wall. its like 5 metre by 2.5 to 3 metre. no balcony, no power outlet, stupid fan is situated near the ceiling, dunno how to turn it on. there is power button on the wall, dun seem like it works, maybe pull the string on the fan.
didn't get the chance to walk over to the sydney tower or UTS today. maybe some other time, my legs are feeling so much pain from all the walking especially the left sole of my foot. aargh!!! I still need to go to alot of places!!! been to chinatown today, i need a pic of me in it.
places i want to go are Blue Mountain River Cruise to watch the bridge and opera house Opera House Manly Beach Bondi Beach Check out Chatswood shopping mall and uni close by Sydney Tower Sydney Aquarium Darling Harbour The Rocks check out UNSW check out UTS

last day in brisbane
07.24.04 (3:35 am) [edit]
i arrived in brisbane on thursday morning about 6 am. The airport looks even better than perth airport. there is walking escalator to take u to the baggage reclaim area. i also like the aerotrain, cost me $10 to go the city central station. on thursday, i went in my 4 bedroom share room and head off to chinatown, brunswick st to take a look around. It was north of my accomodation. It was not open. I ate breakfast at mcdonalds. The first day, I was elated but also scared, fear of travelling myself... i thought it will be the longest holiday i'll be having. haha. I asked the lady at macdonald and she told me I can take the citycat (ferry) along the river to take scenery shots. haha. I did, i went to UQ, South Bank foreshore and also QUT.
Second day, i spent at suburban shopping centres e.g. toowong village and indooroopilly. it reminds me of midvalley in KL.
Today, I went to go the gold coast, day trip, didn't visit the theme parks. I visited surfer's paradise, south port and the big shopping mall e.g. pacific fair. spent fucken $12.30 for taxi to go to pick up point of bus back to brisbane. sly taxi drivers. be ware ppl.
oh well, tomorrow gotta be in sydney, flight departs at 8 am, I gotta go and get some sleep.
stupid internet cafe as well as the one at my hotel, can't even plug in my usb hard disk or my digital camera to download the photos off. far out. I need to go and check with a photo shop or camera shop to get them to download and burnt it on a cd, i expect it to be pricey and going to rip me off. but I got no choice, need to empty up my digital camera for the sydney trip bcos there are more things to see.
i'm an IT graduate for god's sake, I know my own shit and I know what i'm doing. won't put any virus or screw up their own pc. oh well, no choice, need to do it the hard way and expensive way. i'll update my blog once I get to sydney or when i get back to me home on the West Coast - perth!!!
going to be another 9 days in sydney. enjoy ur week ppl!!!

boring past few days
07.17.04 (5:44 am) [edit]
Last Thursday after work, I came home, was going to my room. My mum asked me to look at the electricity bill pinned by a magnet on the fridge. I was puzzled. I am not the owner of the household and I do not pay for electricity. I looked at the bill, it sure had my name on it, the total amount due was $2182.80. I was totally shocked and confused. It is a huge sum of money that I can't afford to pay!!! I didn't know what to do... Started getting nervous :?
Then I read the supplement paper at the back, it was for a electricity pole. I scanned my memory and remembered it was the car accident I had last year which they said it was my fault to cause some dude to rang into a electricity pole. Luckily he was okies.
Hence I frantically asked mum to give me the number of the insurance company. I rang up the insurance co. they told me, fax them the bill statement and also gave me a claim number. I rang up the power company, gave them the claim number and the phone number to contact for further details. I didn't have to pay excess, I already paid the excess late last year. I thought this whole incident was behind me. I went over to my local newsagent and fax the required paperwork. Had a chat with the uncle who owns the newsagency.
oh yesterday, I went with a uni fren and a close fren to bubble tea. Went to a joint called formosa. Its a taiwanese place, had bubble tea, there were LAN gaming there for the hardocre counter-strike nerds and satellite tv beaming taiwanese variety shows. The thing that pissed me off yesterday was my stupid fren always put his leg on the shelve underneath the glovebox. His fucking legs broke on of the support. I had to glue the hinge back on. What a dumbshit, doesn't even show me any respect for my property. I gotta tell him off today.
today, early in the morning around 10 am ish, one of my high school friend came over to my place. I was suprise to see him. He left for melbourne early last year to look for work over there. He still looks the same, better dress and red tinge coloured hair. I had a little chat with him and seemed to be doing okay. He is looking for a better paying job and related to his field of study at uni. I asked him about melbourne, sydney and brisbane. He told me he didn't quite get to look around Brisbane alot. He liked Melbourne alot better, city definitely way bigger than Perth. Told me about the landmark shopping areas like flinder streets and blah blah... can't remember the name, He rents a place in melbourne central. Definitely if I do get a chance to go to melbourne, I'll stay at his place!!! maybe at the end of the year, but its going to summer, super hot or maybe next year in the june or july. That will be nicer weather. He's going to be here in Perth for one week and then returning to melbourne. His parents live here, he is an australian born chinese. mum's malaysian chinese, dad's from hong kong (part of mainland china)
I am still going to the east coast, this coming wednesday. I am going to meet up with my friend's fren who is coming over from Sydney on Tuesday. So I can do some social networking and when I go to Sydney I have some company and show me around

results released this monday
07.10.04 (2:19 am) [edit]
As always there is anticipation and excitement towards finding out results. The results website was activated today earlier than the official date of 12 July 2004. Hence any students can login and find about their results. I got a credit and a distinction. I was doing two units.
The grades goes like this High Distinction (HD) ~ 80 - 100 Distinction (D) ~ 70 - 79 Credit (C) ~ 60 - 69 Pass (P) ~ 50 - 59 Fail (N) ~ below 49
I had expected one credit and maybe a distinction because one unit was averaging 68 - 71%. So I am happy with my results considering the amount of effort I put in. I deserve those credits.

going on holiday to the east coast
07.06.04 (10:04 am) [edit]
Yo people!!! I'm going to the east coast this mid july. I'll be visiting Brisbane for a couple days then I'm heading over to Sydney until the Tuesday of the 2nd week of uni which is the 3rd August 2004.
I booked my flight online thru the virgin blue website. One way cost A $149, from Brisbane to Sydney it cost $55. But the thing was I had to make changes, so these cheap ass tickets do not come with any flexibility. I had to pay $25 x 2 for changes to my departure date to sydney and arrival date back to Perth. I'm on the west coast!!!
I'm looking forward to travelling. The thing, I couldn't get any friends to come along with me which sucks. But I wanted to go, so persistent that I'm going to be travelling alone. I am nervous travelling by myself. But I've done it before when I went back to Singapore/Malaysia in 2002 and in mid January 2004 of this year. But since its within the same country, I'm not going to face any cultural issues, not going to get lost. It is just going to be another part of australia, similar climate, similar lifestyle and more people I suppose.
I heard Brisbane weather is milder, not as extreme as sydney or perth. temperature range from 8 degrees to 29 degrees including in the summer. Perth gets so bloody hot in summer over 40 degrees, limited humidity but the air is burning man!!!. Brisbane also have warmer winters and cooler summers as compared to Perth and Sydney which are more extreme. I will spend three days in brisbane, maybe go snap some pics in south bank, go to chinatown, botanical gardens and whatever there is to see. Don't think I'll get the time to travel to surfer's paradise or gold coast. I'll be staying at a backpacker's hotel in the city.
But in Sydney, definitely want to go to the Blue mountains to check out the spectacular sceneries, river cruise in sydney viewing the opera house and sydney harbour bridge, maybe go to tarango zoo, sydney tower (261 m tall), chinatown, maybe visit UNSW campus in kensington. I'll be staying in a backpacker's hotel in the city too. Maybe meet up with a couple of friends too.
I'm not in adventure or extreme sports. I am more a sightseeing traveller. I like to go and see places, read and learn about the history have a yak to people. I like taking photos of all the landmarks and places around. One of my frenz who's staying in sydney said that sydney is packed with people. Imagine it in a nightclub jammed packed with people he said. Its so hard to move, people everywhere including the trains, buses, streets, whateva. The best picture that comes to mind is in China, where are so many people jammed packed in colossal cities like Shanghai, Beijing. Everywhere you go there is people everywhere. Never alone. lol I've been to Singapore before, I like it when there are people around, just feel excited the place is buzzing with people, walking, chatting, eating, shopping especially on orchard road. I just love the vibrancy of big cities. I love the feeling of progress, having a purpose, doing something. But what I dun like about big cities are traffic congestion, pollution, rude people, queuing up for checking out in supermarkets... blah blah. list goes on. I'll be having a fun time in sydney man. Going to in the city, walking and exploring myself. Hopefully meet some nice people to have a yak.
Man, I'm also feeling super guilty. First week of uni starts on the 26th July 2004. I am going to be in Sydney for that week and first two days of the second week. But first week of uni is always administrative work, selecting a tutorial time slot and buying books, lecturers going over the unit guide, assessment and all the rest of administrative bullshit. blah blah... list goes on... Good thing, I can catch up when I am back although I might miss the busiest week at work. lol. I told me boss that I'm going on a holiday, he was happy about that. Probably reckons I'm going to east coast to check out the gurls there. lol. Well thats what my workmate matt thinks. He said, hey, heard your going to sydney hey? checking out the booty over there. lol.
Seriously, there are alot of things I wanted to do before I turn 30. 30 is like uncle's age man, time to get married start a family, have kids. To go travelling, I need to do it now while I am still young... I'm not going to have this free time ever again if I commit to full-time work. I might as well take this opportunity to go and do all the fun things I like, so super guilty again of me being care free and not taking a new step in moving my career forward. One of my malaysian friend envies me still studying. She is working now and envies me taking time to travel and be a bum. I guess I'm bumming big time. I should be out of uni ages ago, working. But I like the uni atmosphere. meet all sorts of people haha mainly closer to me malaysians and singaporeans friends.

At work today and yesterday was a non event. I spent my whole time yakking to my workmate Matt. A few stories I need to tell. The first one is this old sister or what do u call it, a nun, asked me to help her enrol in a unit to study for next semester. The thing is I dealt with her before, she is absolutely cluess with computers. Hence, at my counter, I went to the myinfo page (online enrollment website) and asked her to log in. She was waiting for me to log in for her, she told me her student number and revealed her password in her diary. I logged in, got into the enrolment page. I asked her, what unit did she want to enrol in, she was absolutely clueless, never did the basic homework of crossing out the units she had done and see what other units are left. She had the university handbook detailing her course in theology. I tried enrolling in a couple of units she asked me to, they all appeared marked invalid because she either done it already or exempted for the unit. Then I just enrolled on a unit that appeared to be successful. That was okay. Then she starts asking me about how to find out about classes. I told her, its all online. So I got the cue from her, she wanted me to print out her timetable as well. Wow, some people need spoonfeeding man!!! absolutely klutz when it comes to computers for some people.
Okies, another student this time a girl wanted to check if there was anything wrong with her card. Everytime she swipes her card on the photocopy machine it would beep. That indicates wrong pin (4 number pin) entered. So I erased the pin and let her enter a new one. But my stupid workmate, asked her to swipe the card and create a new pin on the internet quota terminal. She did created a pin but she also put $5.00 on the internet quota machine. So she comes up to me and ask me if I could put it back on her card. I told her no, because the amount was too small, it was an hassle. She thens tries to argue her way, but my workmate argued that it is a messy process. The other reason was I am sick and tired of people trying to bully me into giving in. I wanted to show I am strong, incorruptible. She then walks away and comes back again asking me that she hasn't been paid and have no money in the bank to put in money to her student card for photocopying. I told her there is nothing I can do. She thens come back in another 5-10 minutes. I gave up, I went to see if my boss was in, couldn't find him, ask the library reception she said put $5.00 on there, I told her, I wanted to follow rules and not be as dodgy as that, just give $5 away without any good rason at all. So I went back to my counter, phone the dude that was in charge of the internet quota system and deducted the $5.00 off the system and I put $5.00 on her card so she could now used for photocopying and more importantly stop bugging me. She was a red head gurl with a smiley face. I hate gurls that do that, give me a happy cheesy smile to soften me up.... lol My workmate reckon she was hot. haha.
I could have save all that hassle if I listen to my workmate, to just chuck back $5.00 on the card and then deal with the $5.00 lost in the system later on. I just hate dealing with persistent people.
Today, life at work was alot easier. I dealt with one student, who is already doing a full-time load of 3 units. She was going to do 4 units. Okies, for most of you, to enrol, you need to find out what units you have done and what units are available for you. You do the basic research or homework first. But this student, so clueless, didn't even know the correct title and the unit code for the unit she wants to enrol in. I got her to log into myinfo and I went to the enrolment. I had to do extra legwork to find out the unit code and unit title so she could enrol. I finally got her enrolled. The point I want to really stress, is that alot of people do not do the basic homework of knowing the units that want to enrol, they just make up conjectures and are so slack and lazy. They just dun ready, but of their slack mentality that the people at the service desk counter must spoonfeed them like babies. They are grown up adults for god sake, can walk and fly away. They should just really sit themselves on one of the library computers and bash the keyboard, hopefully they'll make some headway instead of me explaining everything to them all the time when the information is already given to them when they first enrolled and also it is available online. Where on earth have these people been?
Oh even better, I got this student, an Japanese exchange student, he wanted to know how to connect to the wireless in our library. I gave him the instruction sheet to set up. He informed me, his already got one already. He wanted to know if he could access websites outside of our uni, and how it was charged and whether he could play games. I told him, yes you can access websites out of uni, because everything is run on a quota system whereby the uni gives u a free amount each week, but u charge it up with ur own money using the auto-loader to put money on ur card and then use the internet quota terminal on the wall to transfer the credit across to the internet quota. This student I was shocked, his been here for one semester, haven't actually use his internet quota. He has about $9.00 . Never used it. Hence all along he must have bee in the library accessing the intrnet. The internet quota allows the student access everything outside of the uni. Where have these people hiding? underneath a big ass rock. Man, this is the real world, we still have people so far behind in technology in the first world.

06.30.04 (5:11 pm) [edit]
Last week my fren pranged his car. On the weekend I asked him online, what was the situation. He said his car would be repair instead of replacement. Hence, obviously his jubilant. I joked, that was great, the car now has his scratch mark on it, its AUTHENTIC mark, test drove on the road he pranged his car. haha.
Today started work at 8:30 am. Bored as cows eating grass in the paddyfields. Hardly anyone comes to the library during the uni break. Maybe some squares, bookworms and free riders using internet access or checking email on level 2. Some got nothing better to do, will watch DVD or classic hollywood films on level 2.
Going to be a really tough day to concentrate. I should be doing something productive with my holidays.

time fly so fast - missing alot
06.29.04 (8:58 am) [edit]
I was talking to a few friends on msn tonite. Something struck my mind. I was thinking about how much time has passed. When I was at uni a few years ago with my local uni friends, they were 22-24. Now they are all 25-30+. I am 24 now. Where have all that time went? What have I been doing. Memories of successes, failures, special moments, regrets, happy moments come flooding in from the periphery.
Next year I'll be 25, 5 more years I'll be 30. All the good years to be studying at uni, travelling, holidaying, meeting new friends. 30+ is a turning point a nice age to settle down with someone u love dearly, start family, house, car stable job.
A friend of mine now back in singapore, his 26, i asked him the same question on msn he said had friends way back from primary school and they are all 26+.
There are so many things I haven't experience yet, stable long term employment in a good job, owning my first home, buying my first car, long term relationship, travel to the east coast e.g. brisbane, sydney, melbourne, new zealand, tasmania. I haven't even been to places I like to go e.g. Hong Kong, Taipei, East Malaysia - Sabah
As time goes forward, I am hesitant and uncertain moving forward to the future but I am also leaving the past behind, missing the past becoming nostalgic of alot of things, people, occassions, special moments, hi, smiles, waves from people and also socialising with frens. I missed 2003, sure will miss 2004 once this year is over. These last two years have meant alot to me for personal development.
As eash year goes pass, there is a saying, always be happy with every and each moment in time, the reason being when u become old, it will aggregate all those moments, years into happiness, self-acomplishment and maybe no regrets.
Some day, when I am old and wise, I hope to be able to meet with most if not all the people who have touched my life and played an important role in shaping me and influenced the way I think and perceive myself and others. I would not have met them at all if I weren't here at this particular place, time and situation. I wanna thank them for being there at that moment in time, and tell them, I'm glad to have met them and things happened.
I hope I can sleep better tonight after I expressed these thoughts. My mind usually whirl around thinking and thinking... good9 to me blog friends and good9 to all

purpose of blogging
06.27.04 (8:52 am) [edit]
I read on someone's blog the other day. A discussion generated around blogs. I agree with blogging as a way to keep a diary about your thoughts, feelings, emotions and expressing them out. It helps relieve pressure and tension from the stresses of everyday life work, personal stuff. But its changing from just a personal diary from getting useful feedback from strangers to more like attention seeking as well as well as getting hits.
I dun mean to say there is anything wrong wif that. but its good to have people reading your blog and giving feedback e.g. useful advice or helpful comment to cheer u up. Sometimes there are those thugs who appear out of nowhere and shit their colorful mean spirited comments there bcos they disagree with the blog or the blogger.
But I suppose people like to blog because its a form of diary that keeps track of what happens in their daily lives, bitching and whinging about things that don't go their way. A female friend of mine always told me she was a drama queen, lotsa dramas in her life. Well, I think I can say that most people are actors in a stage theatre where the drama is unfolding every minute of their lifes. It is the drama big or small, victorious or defeated, interesting or dull and emotional or detached. Its just a way to keep us all sane and sanguine.
Some people have real life friends reading their blogs because they are close enough to share their lives together. I keep mine away from people in my real life. On friday, one of my closest high school friend asked me if he could get the url off my blog bcos I told him about blogging. I said, sorry, I can't. This is my place to share and express my feelings deep down. I dun mind sharing with strangers but I do not want my friends to be reading it because there are alot of things I blog that is only meant to be kept to myself. It is my own place like in the real world, sitting on the grass or a bench in a park pondering about ur personal feelings and emotions. This blogging helps me to express my feelings. I don't try to be mean to people I talked about but tell the truth about almost every things and express it in way that is honest and fair. No vitriolic unnecessary bashing of people's characters. In real life, one tries to be nice to them, give them a hint that that they one do not agree with them.
In general, blogging is a personal thing. Its one way of remembering things, being nostalgic, maybe a few regrets and remorsefulness, bitterness about things that happened in the past. Hopefully most people will get over their down state and come up on top. cheers

bored
06.26.04 (8:17 am) [edit]
Bored tonite. A friend I knew from uni ages ago rang me up to call me if i was in for a few pool games at the pool lounge in the city's entertainment district. I told him, I got no motivation, not in the mood, sober and downright uninterested. He keeps on telling me, there are going to be good-looking girls to oogle at. lol. I am tired of listening to those particular horny comments. Then he blabbers on about UPS for those non-techies out there UPS is Uninterrupted Power Supply for computers in the event of a power black out, it gives u 10 min window of opportunity to save all ur work before it power downs the pc.
Well, If was in Malaysia I could be going to Pasar Malam, checking out the street wares and fake clothing or the mamak stalls to eat some roti and lemon ice tea. or Jalan Sultan Ismail for clubbing. If I was in Singapore, I could be down at Orchard Road, Bugis or Suntec. But since I am over here, I dun wanna go out. Whats wrong with me.
So disappointing, I am still not sleepy, staring in front of my LG LCD display in my room. I got nothing to do. *sigh* Surrounded by four walls with the radio tuned into house-clubbing music. How I wish I could fly away sometimes. Fly far far away, emotionally detached and feeling bliss. No more worries and problems. Just glide and sear over people's houses and their lives revolving every minute from elderly tending their front garden and people walking home back from shopping or an outing. flying high and peering over the sky and looking from a distance to capture the meaning of people's lives. then slowly swooping down to see people driving their cars to their destinations and the criss cross mesh of traffic lights and movements everywhere. Then fly off in the northerly direction over the horizon where the sun sets.

friend's house
06.24.04 (9:33 pm) [edit]
Yesterday, I came home from work at about 2-3 pm ish. Went online, did some blogging. Read blog friend's blog and commented. I was listening to techno as usual. Blasted real out. I then felt super tired, woke up early and went to work 8 am. So while I was sleeping, about 8 ish, friend called me. I shouldn't be telling anyone this, but its bcos its anonymous friends I have not before then thats okay. My friend told me he had an car accident. I asked him if he was bullshitting me, bcos he is such a prankster, always making practical jokes. he told me, he crashed his dad's Nissan 350z. If you do not what it looks like here is a url, http://www.nissan.com.au/z/ex... He had it for about 5 months. The first time I saw and sat in his car was on the 14th Feb 2004 when I returned from singapore. It cost his dad at least $73000. It is a track version, 3.5 Litre, V6. It has Rambro breaks, those used in european sports car, bose sound system, leather seats, 19 inch rims and low profile tires. I was shocked and surprised that he stuffed the car up. What happen was, he came from music lessons, driving straight on a road, a car turned in and he was looking down for a second, his car collided with two other cars, went over the curb, crashed into a carpark of a film shop. During that time, his airbags inflated. He had some red marks on his neck, chest and shoulders an back because of the seat belt. Luckily he was okay. He said, the firefighters came, police, ambulance. His car has been towed away to the insurance caryard for assessment. The weather yesterday was not so good, dark and cloudy, drizzled showers. not heavy rain tho, in that case, always drive at slower speeds and be very cautious.
Last night when I went over to his place, I could hear his mum's and dad's heated voice. I rang the door bell. He opened the door for me and they all saw my new blonde streaked hair. Haha, for a change, their temper lowered and start asking about my hair. My friend told his parents, I want to be beng. lol.
anyway, my friend was saying he doesn't know yet if the insurance will replace the car or give them lump sum back but depreciated off course. He reckons his car might be scrapped. Too expensive to repair, cost about $35 000 at least to repair. His dad reckons that some specialist tune up shop or rev heads mechanics but buy it for $40 000 and put in the standard parts again, cost them at least another $20000 and since they are doing it themselves they save on the labour cost. So yeah, today he'll receive an assesement or evaluation from the insurance company and determining his next move.
His dad was pissed off for sure. He got the car and only has driven it only a couple of times. He told my friend is going to have to take the bus to uni or buy him a touring bicycle to cycle to uni. The uni is about 17 - 22 km away by cycling. lol. What a big change, downgraded from first class sports car to a bicycle. Even better, the idea of driving his mum's beaten up corolla 5 door hatch. haha. That old bomb got rust, broken stuff everywhere. haha. That was bought off in an auction back in 1996. It was a government fleet car, specifically from the health dept. In other words a nurse car. hehe.
The other funny thing was my friend's mum asked me to recommend what cars to buy if they were given the money instead of the replacement car. I told them for $73 000 you can buy three toyota corollas or my car, 3-4 opals hatch. lol They just laughed hey.
I talked to his dad about his job in Taiwan. blah blah, ended up about 1:30 am. my friend and I went to see the accident are and got mcdonalds and ate in his strangely empty garage at his place. I got home about 3+. Feeling a bit tired at work. Not good for my health. I need sleep. I read on the star online that a normal adult person needs at least 7 hours asleep each day to rejuvenate. Otherwise they'll feel fucked.

bored at work today
06.24.04 (12:29 am) [edit]
Today at work talked to my workmate. My workmate is pretty kewl. His name is Matt. He likes chatting about anystuff hey. He used to work down at the commerce and IT building. HIs other workmate namely Drew and Chris are also kewl too. I yakked to Drew alot because he is chatty dude who knows alot of general topics from university, philosophy to politics.
anyway, I told Matt how it makes my blood boil that some people I haven't talked to along time online, suddenly pops up and say hi, that is okay if they wanna catch and do some yakking. But some like this particular dude chatted away for a while but then he asked me to do him a favour. What a sneaky bastard. It wasn't just any favours, he wanted me to get him a new student card even though he was not a student anymore. I told him, whateva, and pretend to ask him, how am I going to pass it to u. He said he'll have a friend coming over to study and get me contacts. He probably get me trouble at work if I did get him a student card. Matt said, no need to response to these people, they are just dodgey. Always want favours and shit.
We proceeded on talking about people in general. Matt doesn't mind lending money or paying his friend ticket to watch movie or buying them lunch as long as they offered to pay back or buy them lunch back some other time. He doesn't need to keep tab on money spent below $50. Even at $50 and if its a once off then that be alright.
I told him that I'm pretty cool with letting my friends borrow $2-5 off me as long as they offered to pay me back and treat me the same way as I would treat them. Or they'll buy me something or help me out in other ways too. An example is sometimes I'm short of money, I borrowed 2 bucks off my friend, I wanted to return his $2, but he said never mind. On another occassion, I helped him printed out his assignments using my printing credit, and also I took him around for lunch or bubble tea.
But some people ust appears out of nowhere and start being friendly and warm when they are just after a favour, not just favour, really dodgey favours like breaking ethical rules. These people I hardly ever talked too and they only talk when they want something. My friend said, I should asked for a really big favour that is impossible so the other guy would get the idea. This guy (who wanted a favour) I only knew last year through my honours year. He was in my class for 6 months. I already helped him out with lecture notes. He wanted to get a copy of assignment last year. I did not give it to him. So he strained the friendship I had with him. I felt sorry for him because he is vulnerable to depression, always feeling down and stuff. He told me, one of his closest friends in Singapore was not feeling too good bcos he had been rejected by a girl. He tried to warned his friend but he wouldn't listen. So they both screwed emotionally. anyway, back to what I was saying earlier. I just can't stand ask for favours people. I talked to my malaysian friend today at work. He told me, its typically Asians that do that sorta thing. I believed everyone does it regardless whether your Asians or not. I have to be careful of these people.
There was this other time, this girl who was an housemate of my friend. I only met her a couple of times, I helped her fixed her computer. She thens comes online and started talking to me. I thought she was being friendly and catching up . Straight afterward she indirectly asked me if she could borrow my mum's car. She asked by saying that she has a friend in a suburb closed to the airport. Her bf is also coming from Malaysia. I was hesitant because it was not my car. I told her the truth that its not my car, and I am not allowed to pass it to you for use. Its a big ask. Insurance does not cover her. Don't want to mess around with risk. Insurance is hefty. Matt agreed, do not let anyone drive your car because its just risky and you do not know them that well. Even if its really good buddies, gotta sit in the front seat and see how they treat the car. Matt also mentioned that people you do not know well enuff, best to never lend them money over $20. start off with $20 and see if they return it back.
I still have people owed me CDs they borrowed from last year. These days, I can't give a flying toss chasing up for my CDs. If they were my friends, they'll come and return it to me instead of I having to do the legwork and rounds to collect all my stuff back. One thing I'll make sure, that they I will never let them borrow my stuff again unless they return the stuff they borrowed ages from me. Its up to whenever I feel like lending it to them.

last exam
06.22.04 (10:00 pm) [edit]
today, got up around 8:20+ am, drove to uni, went to the vending machine room to study a bit more before my exam at 9:30 am. At about 9, walked over to the lecture theatre. It was raining earlier. The morning was stilll fresh. saw a couple of students waiting outside discussing about their holiday plans and some discussing last-minute concepts and theories.
I just stared blankly in the northerly direction looking at the science and computing building. temperature must have bee about 9-11 degrees celcius.
About 9:20 we went in, everyone settled down as usual. Started reading time. This exam had two sections in it, first section there were 12 concepts had to choose 8 concepts The second section had 7 questions had to do 3. It was a 3 hour exam.
I sat down began reading the paper, selected the 8 concepts I wanted to do. I spent most of my time reading the 7 questions. None of which I liked particulary, I decided to do the one about likely free trade agreements with in ASEAN, also the one on Smaller governments are better than bigger governments in creating economic growth. I also did the one on Education on how it it seen as a investment to stimulate economic growth. This paper was generally alot better than I did on Monday.
During exams, my handwriting becomes really scribbles and unintelligble. Its free style and I'm also writing really quick. Its not very neat, if you try to read it, your going ot have a hard time. I am not worried about passing. I think I'll pass, the question is would I get a pass or a credit. A distinction might be a way off. But nevertheless I am done with exams. Holidays officially start next week for about a month and returning back in the last week of July. wooo hooo. I dunno what to do on the holidays. Gonna be boring. Most of my uni friends are back in Sg and some are in Malaysia.
